View Model Reference and Bulk Update Provider and Model for Custom Deployments
Updated
Model Reference helps you see where an AI model is being used across AI+ Studio use cases from a single location. Instead of opening individual deployments and prompt nodes, you can view all related references in a centralized pane. You can also update the Provider and Model for multiple custom deployments at the same time.
Use Model Reference when you want to:
- Identify which use-cases are using a specific model.
- Understand model dependencies across deployments and prompt nodes.
- Replace a provider or model across multiple custom deployments in a single action.
- Reduce the effort required to manage model migrations.
Open Model References
- Open the Provider and Model settings for which you want to open the model reference.
- Locate the model that you want to review.
- Click the vertical ellipsis icon (three-dot menu) next to the Model entry.
- Select View Model References from the drop-down options.
The Model References pane opens and displays all use-cases that reference the selected model.

View Model References
The Model References pane includes:
- The current Provider and Model being analyzed.
- A search bar to find specific use-cases, deployments, or prompt nodes.
- A hierarchical view that shows relationships in the following structure:
Use-case
└─ Deployment
└─ Prompt Node
This view helps you understand where the selected model is being consumed before making any updates.
Bulk Update Provider and Model
Before you begin, ensure that you have the 'Bulk Update Model' permission under AI+ Studio Providers and Models

You can update the provider and model for multiple deployments simultaneously.
- Select the deployments that you want to update.
- Select Replace Model from the action bar.

In the Select New Provider / Model dialog, choose a provider from the Provider list.
- The list includes all providers enabled for your environment.
- The current provider is selected by default.
Choose a model from the Model list.
- The list displays models available for the selected provider.
- The currently assigned model is excluded from the list.

The selected deployments are updated with the new provider and model. A confirmation message appears after the update completes successfully.
Restricted Use-Cases
Some use-cases may have model restrictions due to Feature Level Model Restriction that affect bulk updates. In those cases bulk update for Provider and Model will be handeled as mentioned below:
Use-case locked to a specific model
If a use-case is locked to a particular model:
- The use-case cannot be selected during bulk updates.
- A lock icon appears next to the use-case.
Use-case supports only specific models
If a use-case supports only a limited set of models:
- AI+ Studio validates the selected provider and model when you confirm the update.
- If one or more selected use-cases are incompatible, an error dialog displays the affected use-cases.
Choose one of the following options:
- Exclude and Continue to update only compatible use-cases.
- Go Back to review and modify your selection.
Additional Notes
- Model References is available from the model's action menu.
- Search is supported across use-cases, deployments, and prompt nodes within the References view.
- Bulk updates apply only to the entities you select in the hierarchy
