Overview

Sprinklr now extends AI-powered and manual alt text capabilities to the Empower mobile application, bringing mobile publishing closer to the experience available on web. This enhancement enables users to create accessible social media content directly from their mobile devices by adding descriptive alternative text to images before publishing.

The feature supports both AI-generated alt text and manual alt text entry, allowing users to choose the approach that best fits their accessibility and content requirements. Alt text is available for supported social networks and media types directly within the Quick Publisher (QP) workflow.

Why This Matters

Alternative text (alt text) improves accessibility by providing descriptive information about images for people using screen readers or other assistive technologies. Previously, Empower mobile users could not create or manage alt text while publishing content, resulting in:

• Inconsistent accessibility workflows between web and mobile experiences

• Additional manual effort to manage alt text outside the publishing flow

• Reduced accessibility compliance for mobile-published content

• Challenges when publishing mixed-media carousel posts

This enhancement allows users to create and manage alt text directly within the mobile publishing experience.

Supported Channels

Alt text support is available for the following social channels in Empower Mobile:

• Instagram (IG)
• Facebook (FB)
• X (formerly Twitter)

Channel-specific Behaviour

When publishing to a single supported channel:

• The Generate Alt Text (AI) option is available directly in the post customisation experience.

When publishing to multiple channels:

• If all selected channels support alt text, AI generation is available for each supported channel during channel customisation.
• If both supported and unsupported channels are selected, the alt text controls appear only for channels that support the feature.

Supported Media Types

Add Alt Text Manually

Users can manually provide their own image descriptions for supported media.

To add manual alt text

1. Create or edit a post in Empower Mobile.
2. Select a supported channel.
3. Upload or add image assets.
4. Tap Alt Text beneath the image.
5. Enter a description in the Alt Text field.
6. Tap Done to save the description.
7. Continue publishing your content.

Manual alt text allows users to create highly specific descriptions tailored to their audience and accessibility requirements.

Generate Alt Text Using AI

AI+ can automatically analyse supported images and generate descriptive alt text.

To generate AI alt text

1. Create a post and add one or more images.
2. Open the channel customisation experience when applicable.
3. Tap Generate Alt Text (AI).
4. AI+ analyses eligible images.
5. Alt text is automatically populated for supported images.
6. Review the generated descriptions before publishing.

The AI model generates descriptions based on the image content and automatically fills blank alt text fields.

Remove AI-Generated Alt Text

1. After AI-generated alt text is created, the Generate Alt Text (AI) button changes to Undo Alt Text.

2. Select Clear Alt Text.

3. The system removes the alt text generated through AI.

4. Generate new alt text again if required.

How Alt Text Generation Works 

When No Alt Text Exists 

• AI generation is available. 

• The system generates alt text for the image. 

When Some Images Already Have Alt Text 

• AI generation remains available. 

• The system generates alt text only for images that do not already contain alt text. 

When All Images Already Have Alt Text 

• The AI generation option is disabled. 

• Existing alt text remains unchanged.

Limitations

Keep the following considerations in mind:

• AI-generated alt text is available only for supported image assets.
• Videos do not support alt text.
• Unsupported channels do not display alt text controls.
• AI generation does not overwrite existing alt text.
• Only images with completely blank alt text fields are eligible for generation.
