A Long Text Field question allows respondents to provide detailed, open-ended feedback in their own words. Use this question type to collect qualitative insights, suggestions, explanations, and contextual feedback that cannot be captured through predefined answer options.

Add a Long Text Field Question

1. Open the survey in Survey Builder.
2. Click Question Types from the right pane or select + Question.
3. Select Long Text Field.

Configure the Question

1. Select the question card.
2. Enter the Question Title.
3. Add Help Text to provide additional guidance to respondents.
4. Configure the Minimum Character Limit and Maximum Character Limit as needed.

Add a Description

Use descriptions to provide additional context or instructions for respondents.

1. Enable the Description toggle below the question text.
2. Enter the description content.
3. Use formatting options such as bold text, hyperlinks, or lists when required.
4. In the Styling tab, choose whether the description appears Above or Below the question.
5. Adjust the top and bottom spacing for the description as needed.

Add Question Media

You can add images or other media to provide additional context for the question.

1. Select the question.
2. Navigate to Question Assets.
3. Upload or select the required media.

4. Configure image placement:

   • Web Alignment – Controls image placement for desktop and web experiences.
   • Mobile Alignment – Controls image placement for mobile devices.
5. Preview the survey in desktop and mobile views to validate placement.

Enable Voice-to-Text Responses

Allow respondents to submit responses using voice input.

1. Enable the Voice-to-Text Response toggle.
2. Respondents can record, review, re-record, delete, or submit their audio response.
3. After submission, the audio is automatically transcribed.
4. The transcription is stored as the survey response and can be used in reporting, analytics, and exports.

Notes:

• Transcriptions are generated in the detected language of the respondent's speech.
• When Voice-to-Text is enabled, character-limit validations should not be treated as strict restrictions because transcriptions may exceed configured limits.

Optimize the Survey for Different Screen Sizes

1. Select a device view:

   • Desktop
   • Mobile
   • Tablet
   • Custom Screen
2. Switch between views to review the survey experience.
3. Adjust question layout, spacing, alignment, and media placement as needed.
4. Validate the survey for each target screen size before publishing.

Configure Additional Settings

Make the Question Mandatory

1. Enable Mark as Required.
2. Enter a custom validation message, if needed.
3. Add translations for the custom validation message from the Translations section.

Preview the Question

1. Click Preview in the Survey Builder header.
2. Complete the survey as a respondent.
3. Verify that the Long Text Field behaves as expected and all validations are working correctly.

• Use clear and specific question wording.
• Reserve Long Text Fields for feedback that requires detailed responses.
• Use display logic to show follow-up questions only when relevant.
• Configure character limits based on the expected response length.
• Pair Long Text Fields with rating questions to collect contextual feedback.
• Avoid leading or overly broad questions.
