Introduction to Google RCS Business Messaging (RBM)

Updated

Google RCS Business Messaging (RBM) is a messaging channel that enhances traditional SMS by integrating features like branding, rich media, interactivity, and analytics. This allows businesses to deliver branded, interactive mobile experiences directly within the default messaging app, provided the device is RCS enabled. Google RBM currently supports only business‑initiated messages.

Note: Brands are solely responsible for reaching out to carriers directly to sign up for their services. Sprinklr will not be able to facilitate carrier services; this must be managed by the brand. Alternatively, Sprinklr offers an integration for Google RBM through Infobip.

Infobip functions as a telco aggregator, meaning it already maintains relationships with a wide network of telecom providers. Unlike telco carriers, which operate as individual providers of network infrastructure, aggregators act as a single point of access across multiple carriers.

Key Features of RCS Chats

  • Typing Indicators: Shows when someone is typing.

  • Data Connectivity: Messages can be sent via mobile data and Wi-Fi.

  • Rich Media Sharing: Allows the sharing of files and high-resolution photos.

RCS chats use the Rich Communication Services protocol, operating over Wi-Fi and mobile data, and are supported by Google or your mobile carrier. This article specifically focuses on RCS chats provided by Google.

Note: RCS chats are only available for certain devices, service providers, and carriers.
