Reporting Insights: Alt Text Dimension

Updated

Overview

As part of ongoing reporting and accessibility improvements, a new reporting dimension called Media Alt Text is being introduced. This enhancement standardises how alternative text information is surfaced across reporting experiences, making accessibility insights easier to analyse and more consistent across publishing methods.

The update addresses existing inconsistencies in how alt text information is captured for posts published through different sources and introduces a unified reporting framework for all supported content.

Business Context

Alternative text, commonly referred to as alt text, provides descriptive information about media assets and helps make content accessible to individuals using assistive technologies such as screen readers.

Until now, alt text reporting has behaved differently depending on how content was published:

  • Posts published through Sprinklr use the Is Alt Text Present flag.
  • Posts published natively on social platforms rely on a separate field called Media Description.

Because these fields differ based on publishing source, users may encounter ambiguity when attempting to assess accessibility compliance across all content.

This enhancement streamlines the reporting experience by introducing a consistent approach to alt text visibility.

What Is Changing?

The update introduces a standardised Alt Text reporting model with two complementary fields: Is Alt Text Present and Media Alt Text.

Is Alt Text Present serves as the universal accessibility indicator for supported posts. It identifies whether Alt Text is available for a media asset, regardless of whether the post was published through Sprinklr or natively on a supported social platform.

The field supports the following values:

  • Yes – Alt Text is available.

  • No – Alt Text is not available.

In addition to indicating whether Alt Text exists, a new Media Alt Text reporting dimension provides the actual Alt Text associated with the media asset. This allows users to review and analyse the content of Alt Text directly within reporting dashboards.

Together, these fields provide both a simple measure of Alt Text availability and visibility into the actual alternative text used across social content, supporting more comprehensive accessibility analysis and reporting.

For example:

Is Alt Text Present

Standardised Behaviour Across Publishing Sources

One of the primary objectives of this enhancement is consistency.

Previously, accessibility-related reporting depended on the source of publication, creating differences in how information was surfaced and interpreted.

With this update:

  • The Is Alt Text Present flag applies uniformly across all supported posts.
  • The Media Alt Text field provides a consistent location for viewing alternative text values.
  • Users no longer need to interpret different fields based on publishing source.
  • Accessibility reporting becomes easier to understand and analyse.

Regardless of whether content is published through Sprinklr or natively on a social platform, the reporting experience remains the same.

Reporting Experience

Within reporting dashboards, users can now:

  • Identify posts that contain alt text.
  • Filter content based on alt text availability.
  • View the exact alternative text associated with media assets.
  • Audit accessibility compliance across social content.
  • Analyse accessibility adoption trends over time.

When alt text exists for a post:

  • Is Alt Text Present displays Yes.
  • Media Alt Text displays the corresponding alternative text value.

This provides complete visibility into both the presence and content of accessibility metadata.

Benefits

  • Improved Accessibility Visibility: Users can quickly determine which posts meet accessibility requirements and identify content that may need remediation.

  • Consistent Reporting: A single reporting model removes ambiguity caused by different publishing workflows and field mappings.

  • Simplified Auditing: Teams can review alt text directly within reports instead of manually inspecting individual posts.

  • Better Governance: Organizations can track accessibility adoption and ensure compliance with internal publishing standards.

  • Cross-Channel Consistency: The reporting experience remains consistent regardless of whether content is published via Sprinklr or through native social platform publishing workflows.

Example Use Case

A social media manager wants to evaluate whether published content includes appropriate accessibility metadata.

Using the new reporting dimensions, the manager can:

  1. Filter reports using the Is Alt Text Present field.
  2. Identify posts where alt text is missing.
  3. Review the values displayed within Media Alt Text.
  4. Confirm that accessibility standards are being followed across all publishing channels.

This enables faster accessibility reviews and more effective content governance.
