Introduction to WhatsApp Usernames
Updated
Meta is introducing an optional privacy feature called WhatsApp Usernames later in 2026. This will affect how WhatsApp users are identified within your workflows.
What's Changing
Users and businesses can choose to adopt a username, which will be displayed in the app in place of their phone number. When a user enables a username, their phone number will no longer be included in incoming webhook data.
To ensure uninterrupted messaging, Meta is introducing a new identifier called a Business-Scoped User ID (BSUID). This is a unique, business-specific identifier assigned to each WhatsApp user, and will be used to identify and message users in place of a phone number where one is not available.
Meta is rolling out this change in a phased manner, and we are planning to integrate the changes accordingly.
Actions Required
Enable Contact Book in your Business Manager: Contact Book is a Meta feature that retains WhatsApp user contact information, including phone numbers, to support messaging continuity when users enable usernames. Enabling this ensures that users you have previously contacted remain reachable even after they adopt a username.
Review your CRM integration and outbound campaign logic: If your CRM or outbound campaigns rely on phone number as the primary identifier, update your mapping to also support BSUIDs. This will ensure your campaigns continue to reach new users who may not have a phone number visible in Sprinklr.
Note: Reach out to your Sprinklr account team if you have questions or would like support planning for these changes.
