Frontiers transforms LinkedIn mentions into strategic insights
Frontiers transformed insights from LinkedIn into a strategic engine for global community engagement — powered by scalable data ingestion through Sprinklr’s FPDI.

The Challenge
Frontiers, a leading open access research publisher, is committed to building a welcoming, engaged online community through its social media presence. As part of this, the team set out to create internal reports that track the social media impact of their initiatives and spotlight highly engaged contributors — research authors, editors, and reviewers — who could become advocates.
Due to API limitations, however, LinkedIn mentions weren’t automatically captured in the social listening dashboard, despite the platform being a key space where Frontiers’ community actively engages. Capturing these mentions was essential for building a complete picture of social media impact, as LinkedIn continues to serve as a key platform where the publishing community expresses its professional identity openly and celebrates collective progress. To bridge this gap, a manual ingestion process was initiated, but it was time-consuming and lacked scalability.
The Frontiers team needed a solution that could reliably collect positive LinkedIn mentions for their biweekly positive engagement report, helping them highlight their most engaging posts and celebrate community success stories internally.
Sprinklr has helped us turn social data into a powerful storytelling tool. This initiative not only improves how we track brand sentiment, but also enhances our ability to recognize and elevate the contributions of our global research community.

The Solution
Frontiers leveraged Sprinklr’s First Party Data Ingestion (FPDI) functionality to solve a challenge that many brands face: integrating LinkedIn data at scale. By importing LinkedIn mentions into their Social Listening dashboard via Excel and applying data mapping templates, Frontiers streamlined classification and enabled sentiment tagging during ingestion.
To make the process efficient and repeatable, they standardized column and function settings using data mapping templates, saving significant time for recurring data formats. Frontiers also enabled seamless sharing of LinkedIn insights through external links, giving leadership easy access to relevant reports without friction.
This approach transformed a manual, error-prone workflow into a streamlined system that brings LinkedIn engagement data directly into Sprinklr’s platform.
“We’re now able to highlight our most engaging posts and celebrate the achievements of our researchers and community,” explains Alfonsina Di Martino, Online Community Specialist at Frontiers.

The Outcome
By implementing FPDI and customizing the ingestion workflow, Frontiers achieved measurable improvements:
- Streamlined capture and classification of LinkedIn data with sentiment tagging during ingestion
- Built a sustainable system to identify and measure community advocates over time
- Delivered a customized reporting dashboard, shared biweekly with stakeholders, showcasing positive engagement across channels
“Sprinklr has helped us turn social data into a powerful storytelling tool,” says Di Martino. “This initiative not only improves how we track brand sentiment, but also enhances our ability to recognize and elevate the contributions of our global research community.”
Di Martino credits Sprinklr Product Consultant Kriti Joshi for helping guide the process end-to-end. Joshi introduced the FPDI feature, configured the ingestion workflow and customized the dashboard design to meet the team’s needs. She also helped troubleshoot edge cases to ensure a smooth rollout.
“Her expertise was instrumental in every stage,” says Di Martino. “The result is a seamless, insightful and visually engaging report that brings real value to our internal stakeholders. She helped us turn fragmented data into a cohesive, scalable system for visualizing our community engagement.”
