Ad Posts vs Ad Creatives

Updated

You can create Ad Posts and Ad Creatives within the Creative Library. In this article, we have highlighted some key differences between these two types.

Key Differences Between Ad Posts and Ad Creatives

Ad Posts

Ad Creatives
Overview
  • Ad Posts can either be Organic or Dark posts.

  • You can check the box alongside Publish as dark post if you do not want your ad post to get organic distribution.

  • Ad Post is a

    Parent

to an ad variant, which is a specific delivery of that creative to an audience.

    • Let us say, you make a new ad creative that is the ad post and use that post in Ad Set 1, Ad Set 2, and Ad Set 3.

    • This creates 3 Ad Variants:

      • Ad Variant 1 where Ad Set 1 drives 10 clicks.

      • Ad Variant 2 where Ad Set 2 drives 5 clicks.

      • Ad Variant 3 where Ad Set 3 drives 15 clicks.

Hence, the Ad Post would have driven 30 clicks (10+5+15).

  • Ad Creatives usually contain Ad Posts. But for specific ad types, Ad Posts are not supported by channels. In such cases, all the creative elements of the ad viz. headline, image, website URL, etc. are a part of the Ad Creative directly.

  • For example, you can select from various customization options such as Snapchat Commercial Ads, Placement Asset Customization, Dynamic Creatives, etc. to build your ad creative.

Publishing as Dark Post

FB Creative Customizations

Publishing
  • You can directly publish an Ad Post on channels before publishing an Ad from the Creative Library.

  • You cannot publish a post with Web Analytics selected. You will need to save it as a Draft and use them inline with your Ads in Ads Composer or Ads Manager.

  • You cannot apply Pre Publishing rules to your Ad Posts.

  • Outbound Properties are available for Ad Posts.

  • You can only publish an Ad Creative while publishing the ad itself via Ads Composer or Ads Manager. It cannot be published before the ad, unlike an Ad Post.

  • You will need to save your Ad Creative as a Draft.

  • You can also apply Pre-Publishing rules to your Ad Creatives. For more information, see Use Pre Publishing Rules for Ad Creatives.

  • Outbound properties are not available for Ad Creatives.

Approval
  • If you send Ad Posts for approval, only Publish and Save as Draft options will be available as Ad Posts can directly be published.

  • If you have any Ad Creative customizations (PAC, DLO, Location Customization, Dynamic Creative) in place and send the creative for approval, only the Approve as Draft and Reject options will be available as Ad Creatives cannot directly be published.

  • If these Ad Creatives are sent for approval via the Rule Engine, it will not work and you will need to select an Approval Path.

  • While approving ad posts that have web analytics applied, you will have options to:

    • Approve Creative as Draft

    • Reject Creative

  • While approving commercial ad creatives, you will have options to:

    • Approve Creative - You will not be able to approve commercial ads via the Creative Library. Even if you try to approve an ad, a message will appear: Could not approve the entity: This approval task is not in the available state.

    • Approve Creative as Draft

    • Reject Creative
