Modify Survey
Updated
Editing a published survey can introduce risks, such as disrupting data flow or negatively affecting the user experience. To help you manage these risks, the Survey Builder includes built-in safeguards that ensure any changes to a live survey are intentional and carefully managed. These include modals that confirm deletions of questions, options, or statements, as well as warning alerts that notify you of any changes that could impact survey logic or data integrity. Together, these safeguards enable you to edit surveys with confidence, helping to reduce errors and maintain data accuracy.
Business Use Cases
Preventing Unintentional Deletions: When updating a live survey, you may encounter a confirmation modal if you try to delete a question with complex skip logic. The modal will inform you that removing the question could affect the survey logic, allowing you to review the changes, avoid unintended errors, and ensure the survey structure stays intact.
Streamlining Team Collaboration: When collaborating with team members to update a survey, you can rely on the guardrails' warning messages when modifying shared questions or options. These safeguards ensure that all edits are intentional and transparent, helping improve team coordination and preventing conflicts.
Maintaining Respondent Experience: When adjusting a survey mid-campaign, you may receive a notification indicating that removing an option could confuse respondents who have already interacted with the question. The guardrails help you make informed decisions, ensuring a smooth experience for all respondents.

Setting up
You can create and modify a survey in several ways. For a published study, any changes to the survey structure that could impact responses or analytics will be protected by guardrails. Let's examine how to utilize the surveys:
Delete a Question
You must confirm whether you have tried to delete a question in a published survey. Once you confirm and delete the question, all responses associated with it will be removed after you republish the survey.
Delete an Option
This is relevant for Multiple Choice questions and Rank Order question types.
If you try to delete an option in a published survey, you’ll be asked to confirm. Once you confirm and delete the option, all responses collected for it will be removed after you republish the survey.
Delete a Statement( For Questions with Multiple Statements)
If you try to delete a statement in a published survey, confirmation will be required. Once you confirm and delete the statement, all responses collected for it will be deleted after you republish the survey.
Deleting a question linked to survey logic
If you try to delete a question linked to survey logic in a published survey, confirmation will be required.
Key points to note
Guardrails are designed to address specific risks that could influence responses, analytics, and the overall progression of the survey. However, not every action taken by builders is protected.
Best Practices
Read the messages provided in the confirmation dialog boxes carefully to understand the changes involved.
