WhatsApp Business Webview Support / In-App Browser (IAB)
Updated
WhatsApp has added support for WebView / In-App Browser (IAB) that allows users to open links shared in business messages directly within the WhatsApp app, without being redirected to an external browser like Chrome or Safari.
This feature aims to provide a seamless and secure browsing experience for users and to help businesses improve engagement by reducing drop-offs caused by app-switching.
Feature Availability
Availability: This feature is available globally in all countries where paid messaging is supported. No setup or technical integration is required. The rollout is gradual and expected to reach full coverage by November 15, 2025.
Payments supported: Payment links open directly in the In-App Browser (IAB).
Where it doesn’t work: Links shared in free-form messages or replies will not open in IAB. These links will continue to open in the phone’s default browser.
Where it works: Supported only for links included in the Call-to-Action (CTA) button of marketing or utility template messages.
Eligibility: Available to businesses with a daily messaging limit of 1,000 or more business-initiated conversations per phone number. Applies to WhatsApp Business Accounts (WABAs) meeting the same threshold.
Default Behavior
Previously, when users clicked on a link in a WhatsApp message, it opened in an external browser (for example, Google Chrome).
With the new Webview feature:
Links will now open inside WhatsApp in a native browser view.
Users can still choose to open the link in their preferred external browser if they wish.
Configuration and Enablement
No configuration or enablement is required from the Sprinklr or business end.
The capability is automatically enabled by WhatsApp.
There is no configuration or integration setup needed within Sprinklr.
Businesses will see the feature reflected automatically in their WhatsApp Business Manager once rolled out.
Benefits
Enhanced customer experience: Users can view business links within WhatsApp.
Reduced drop-offs: Eliminates friction caused by switching between apps.
Faster engagement: Keeps the customer journey contained within a single, familiar environment.
